Competition adds lots of colour to childrens’ lives!

TUESDAY's Tidy Towns colouring contest was a winner among local national school children.
This is the third occasion we have sponsored this," Gerry Johnson of the Athlone Tidy Towns told those attending at the Aidan Heavy Library. "With the support of Athlone Town Council."
The project involved looking at wildlife in and around Athlone, and litter. Hundreds of entries were received and a total of 19 prizes handed out.
“We're working towards improving the wildlife in Athlone," Gerry Johnson said.
As part of that, the group is looking at conducting a wildlife survey with the assistance of NUI Galway and University College Dublin.
“It's a nice competition," Darina Dolan, principal of St. Peter's School said. "The bottom line is, keeping Athlone tidy."
Prize winner Edel Duffy, nine, was present with her parents Sheila Duffy and Albert Marsh.
“She's stuck for words," her father explained, but added, "she loves colouring."
Fiona Zhang who turns six in November attends Coosan National School. She placed second in the contest. The Junior Infant is also a budding artist.
“She loves it very much," her mother Xi Lin Zhang said. "At home every day she's drawing for her sister, for me, for daddy."
Awards were presented to:
First place awards: Eoghan O'Carroll of Coosan NS, Leah Downes of Mixed NS, Filip Hujolumach of Dean Kelly NS, Eimile Ni Shiochain of Scoil na Gleithre Maistri, Marianna of Clonbonny NS, Cristian Danila of St Paul's NS, Becky of St Peters.
Second place awards: Fiona Zhang of Coosan NS, Katie Connolly of Mixed NS, Akeem Tunji Bakare of Dean Kelly NS, Grainne Ni Choudealbha of Scoil na Gleithre Mainstri, Aaron David of Clonbonny NS, Daniella Mbenza of St. Pauls NS, and Edel of St. Peter's.
Third place awards: Ryan Kearney of Dean Kelly NS, Blaithin Mullin of Clonbonny NS and Abbie Lowe of St. Paul's NS.
Special class winners were Dzesika Zupkova and Sean Ganley.
Congratulations to all the artists and a grateful thank you to adjudicators, organisers and all involved in the smooth running of the event.
